The statue of Garuda Wisnu Kencana ( GWK ) does not cease to attract travelers a domestic or overseas. This Bali icon by Nyoman Nuarta was inaugurated in September 2018. This iconic statue can be found at the Garuda Kencana Cultural Park or GWK which is located in the southern part of the island of Bali. GWK is precisely located in Ungasan Village, South Kuta District, Badung Regency. The journey to GWK from Ngurah Rai International Airport is about 10-15 minutes. 1. GWK is composed of 754 modules

The GWK statue that can be seen from a distance consists of about 754 modules. One module measures 4x3 meters and weighs approximately 1 ton.

The construction of the GWK statue also requires a lot of materials and workers. There were 1,000 workers involved in the development of the GWK statue which was later split in two. In Bandung there are 400 workers while in Bali there are 600 workers. "We don't just make a big statue, when we make a model that has gone through a selection, all kinds of thoughts, we just decided on the form of GWK like that," said Nyoman Nuarta, quoted from  Kompas.com ,  Saturday (22/9/2018).

2. GWK was established after a 28 year process This iconic statue in Bali was not made in a short time. The construction of the GWK statue has been a long process for 28 years.

The GWK statue was initiated in 1989. At that time, Nyoman initiated the idea with the Minister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications Joop Ave, Minister of Mines and Energy IB Sudjana, and the Governor of Bali Ida Bagus Oka . This project was approved by President Soeharto in 1990. However, it was not until 2013 that the groundbreaking ceremony for this statue was completed.

3. GWK, one of the tallest statues in the world

The GWK statue has a height of 121 meters and a width of 64 meters. Its splendor can be seen even from a distance.

In comparison, the GWK statue beats the height of the Statue of Liberty, which is 93 meters high. This makes the GWK statue included in the list of the tallest statues in the world which cost around Rp. 450 billion to manufacture. 4. GWK statue philosophy According to the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park website , this statue depicts Lord Vishnu riding a Garuda. In Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu is seen as the protector of the universe.

He is accompanied by Garuda which symbolizes loyalty and selfless devotion. The crowns are gold, meaning they are both adorned with crowns of gold mosaic. Garuda is also the symbol of the Indonesian state and symbolizes independence. 5.
